Musings About Design

I'm finding myself currently obsessed with all sorts of illustrations. There's so much you can express with them. Here are some that I'm loving at the moment:

My building has a courtyard that all the surrounding buildings flow into. I have been a bit stuck on what to do with the space but I am finally getting around to it. Here are some pictures I drew inspiration from.

How lovely is this light designed by Daniel Schofield? He makes use of laser cut leather that has been stitched together using traditional British shoe-making techniques.

Finally getting around to uploading my 3D exterior video of the existing Lavel’ ilanga Educational Centre which I did last semester in one of my modules. This centre is the chosen site for my proposed BTech project,one of the first few posts on this blog. Check it out here. It is to be redesigned into a women's healthcare centre.

We worked on Lumion which was not overly complicated and gave good quality and impression of what the building would look like in context.

Sometimes I doodle, be it because of boredom or because most of my thoughts are quite graphic. The mind is such a fascinating space to spend time in.

"Artist Tim Knowles has created a series to highlight not his artistic abilities but the hidden talent of trees. In "Tree Drawings," he whimsically sets up a white surface within reach of a tree's branches and then affixes a writing utensil to the trees. To exhibit the series, he pairs the resulting sketch with a photograph of the set-up that created it." - Amy Connors

BeforeLight is a design studio that specialises in installation of light installations in public spaces. A project that captured my eye is one where the spaces between buildings were dimensioned which brings to life the dimensions designers might have placed on drawings during the conceptual or design development stage.

I absolutely love this visual identity that was created for Mylene Poisson sommelier. Every component was stamped with the foot of a wine, creating such a custom look and personalising the components very aptly when looking at the client's area of expertise.
