Musings About Design

Currently working on a project that I'm looking at greening internally in a new, unusual way. The "greening" is to be educational and something that the visitors to my Biomimicry Discovery Centre can make. Currently loving these potless gardens which are inspired by Kokedama (moss ball).

I sincerely hope I am not the only one who feels this way but of late the weeknds seem to be so short and somehow just merge into my Friday and Monday,e specialy on weekends that I have to work through.
I'd like to say it gets better but I have heard stories...that is all I can say.

So it's February 2014 and I am realising that I have not blogged since November 2013. Between all that time I finished my BTech Interior Design at NMMU, went on a lengthy holiday to Tanzania with the family, moved to Pretoria and started studying honours in Interior Architecture.

It's taking a lot of adjusting but slowly AND surely I will adjust. Taking it all as an adventure (especially when the trusty GPS leads you the wrong way into a one way).
Grateful for the opportunity to further my studies, expand on knowledge and fall inlove with design a little more each day.

Here's to a new city, new university, basically new everything.

I have been stationed behind a computer basically the whole year. Be it working on my treatise or what I like to call CAD-ing my life away.

Finalising my 3D's for computers and design, slowly surely it's all coming together.

Remember when you used to make mix tapes, on an actual tape? Technology may have moved on and so has everyone but the idea need not stay in your memories. All you need to do is buy one of these gift packs, add the music to the USB stick, write a message or playlist and give it to a lovely somebody.

May I start of this post with saying that I'm such a design groupie for Shigeru Ban and his work.

While trawling the internet for inspiration I came across this project he did for a tsunami shelter in Japan. When looking at disaster relief shelters one is always aware at the lack of privacy that comes with it. Understandably, disater relief shelters are not 5 start but is it still possible to create a sense of privacy in  a cost effective and sustainable way? Shigeru Ban definitely thinks so.

He created a partitionins system that consists of two sizes of cardboard tubing, plywood, ropes and white curtains. The system allows for quick assembly and disassembly.
