The speaker that stood out the most for me today is Daan Roosegaarde. He describes himself as a hippie with a business plan.
He does what he describes as Techno-Poetry. His projects involve a lot of technology and more so interaction, his Lotus Dome project is a good example. The dome features ultra-light aluminium flowers that fold open as a response to human movement and behaviour creating a spectacular play of light, shadow and pattern.
Here he is talking a little bit about himself and what he designs. And here is a video showcasing the Lotus Dome

So. The Design Indaba has a Young Designers Simulcast happening in Port Elizabeth. Big YAY. Naturally my body responded with some potent illness. Not so "yay"Pulled myself towards myself for a full day at the simulcast and boy oh boy was it worth it. With the help of as many cups of tea as I could drink, I made it!Will try and share as many links, videos and photos as I can. So inspired!

My B.Tech project is centred on women and children. Came across these graphics and something within resonated.
Met with a nurse from the Gqebera (Walmer) Township where my project is situated. I felt a number of feelings hearing her speak . My heart twisted and turned as if to implode from it all.
I left the conversation challenged.

Stumbled on this bird house design by Porky Hefer sometime last week and I though I'd share. Love how he takes something so artificial and gives it a more nature related function.

The B.Tech Interior Design year basically consists of you taking a building and giving it an amazing new function and design. It's quite overwhelming having to be responsible for such an immense project but it's fun at the same time as you can decide the direction in which the project goes.Let me begin by introducing my building the Lavel’ ilanga Educational Centre which is located in Walmer Township. Lavel’ ilanga means “Here comes the sun”. My concept is to take the existing building and turn it into a Pregnancy Wellness Centre exclusively for the community of Walmer Township. The centre will have a number of functions which I will discuss at a later stage. There is some construction taking place at the site which made for some awkward photograph views but for now here are some images of the existing building.
